In August, 2020, L&K Engineering won the bid for Vietnam Building-A Project Full-turnkey Project of USI (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. The Project is located at DEEP C Industrial Zone, Hai Phong, Vietnam, covering an area of about 650,00m², including about 13,000m² dust-proof workshops.

The winning of this bid is the result of the company’s long-term efforts and painstaking operation in the Vietnamese market, and also means that the company’s overall strength has been recognized by overseas customers. 

After careful study and decision by the company’s top management, it was decided that L&K Engineering would send a team from China to support the electromechanical engineering, and that L&K Engineering Vietnam would carry out the civil works, so as to ensure the smooth completion of the project, which also reflected the company’s great attention to the project.

On October 29 of that year, an electromechanical team of 12 engineers at the director level or above from various projects was dispatched from the company to Vietnam through Friendship Pass, and started the 14-day concentrated quarantine. Based on the company’s Engineering Cloud E Work Platform, the colleagues could work normally and communicate messages synchronously with other departments in time during the quarantine. The electromechanical team spent the 14-day quarantine period making Pre-incident Plan: preparing construction plan, preparing contract documents and issuing purchase requisition according to contract plan. Due to the impact of the global COVID-19 epidemic, the prices of raw materials soared in the second half of 2020. Racing against time means that procurement costs can be reduced, which, at the same time, laid a foundation for the timely arrival of follow-up materials, equipment and labor teams. 

After being released from quarantine and entering the construction site, the project department actively faced and dealt with problems such as language barrier and cultural differences. Besides, it visited intended suppliers one by one and conducted necessary factory inspection, checked the contract materials face to face, clarified the engineering interface and quotation content, made clear the responsibilities of both parties, re-stated the safety and quality requirements and left the minutes of clarification meeting before entering the site, so that both parties could reach a Pre-work Consensus.

At the same time, due to the sharp rise in steel price, the bargaining of steel structure was difficult and the progress of civil engineering was significantly delayed. In the face of this situation, General Manager Mao Zhihui attached great importance to it, and convened an emergency meeting with Chairman and General Manager of L&K Engineering Vietnam, and managers of civil engineering and electromechanical engineering, re-stating that the owner’s important project milestone of removing the machines on June 1, 2021 must be realized. Besides, they personally checked the construction plan, and made instructions and adjustments according to the actual situation on the site.

In late January, 2021, the third wave of the epidemic broke out in North Vietnam. Hai Duong, which borders Hai Phong, started a social quarantine; Hanoi suspended international flights; only the shipping space one month later could be booked, and the price jumped more than six times. In view of this situation, the project department quickly consulted with the procurement and customs departments. According to the emergency need on the site, some materials were transported by land, and close attention was paid to the changes of shipping space and price. 

On February 8, the beam-raising ceremony was held on the site of civil engineering, and then the floor slabs were poured in different sections. With the last steel girder fixed and locked, the work began to gradually shift to electromechanical engineering.

On February 11, the Chinese New Year’s Eve, in view of the epidemic and the construction period, all the project staff gave up returning home during the Spring Festival. The civil engineering team worked overtime all night during the Spring Festival to actively promote the progress. The electromechanical engineering project department followed the progress of the civil engineering site, adjusted the construction schedule at any time accurately to every day, and mobilized the relevant manufacturers to be ready to enter the site at any time. Everything on the site was ready. 

At the end of February, civil engineering department began to transfer the working faces zone by zone. On March 15, the electrical room was transferred. 18 days later, electricity was supplied through 22KV high-voltage panel. On the same day, tap water was also provided.

During the construction, the project department held on-site coordination meeting for all manufacturers every day, and quickly solved the problems encountered by manufacturers on site. For the manufacturers and individuals with excellent performance, awards and bonuses were given to express Attention to Workers, maximally motivating the manufacturers and workers. As for the work the manufacturers were not familiar with, the construction methods they didn’t understand and the rules they didn’t know, the project department organized special education and training for many times, and supervised their work and gave instructions on site to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
 
During the construction, the established construction plan and construction schedule were executed strictly, and deviations were found and corrected in time to achieve Real Implementation.

On May 11th, the first machine of the owner entered the site, 20 days ahead of schedule, leaving far behind other electronic projects constructed at the same time. Many suppliers and construction units in the industry feel incredible about the rapid progress of the USI Project, so L&K Engineering has received invitations from many construction units.

In June, the project passed the fireproofing certification of 50mm rock wool warehouse board at the laboratory in Hanoi; and this was the first time that Vietnam had issued such certification. 

With the successful completion of the project, the owner spoke highly of L&K engineering’s contribution to the project and sent a letter of commendation to the company, highly praising the hard work and efforts of the project team, and awarded a medal of “Excellent Management Team”.

The fire safety permit of the project has been issued; the completion inspection has been passed on July 23, and the approval letter has been obtained, so the customer can put it into production.

So far, the members of the electromechanical team have left the project one after another and started to return to China. The Vietnamese engineers who have experienced and grown together with the project from the beginning to the end are still staying at the site for the tail-in work and subsequent maintenance work. It is hoped that they can make use of this period of time to accumulate and summarize the experience, so that they can make greater contribution to the subsequent similar projects.

The successful completion of this project will help the company to expand its overseas business, provide more experience and opportunities for the company’s follow-up overseas project development and cooperation, and greatly help the company to enhance its visibility and influence in overseas markets. It is also hoped that there will be a bigger stage for L&K Engineering to shine!
